Vittel historical background

In 1854 Louis Bouloumié, a lawyer, came to Contrexéville to be cured and discovered a spring in Vittel which he decided to acquire. A new life began for the former village of Vittel which soon became one of the most attractive and prestigious spas in France and the Bouloumié family largely contributed to its booming splendor and development.


A spa architecture, made of luxury and perfection, appears. In VITTEL, it is the close collaboration between the family and Bouloumié greatest architects of the time that has built this unique city. Vittel, a source of architectural inspiration (K. Hibbs).

Through its palaces and its greenery, Vittel has kept his youth a taste for beauty and well-being and continues to preserve and beautify this incomparable site.
